8th March – Physics @MacICT
During 2011 Macquarie ICT Innovations Centre and Macquarie University are partnering to provide a very special opportunity for Stage 6 Maths and Physics students to speak with leading thinkers in the scientific community. These scientists are visiting the university to exchange knowledge and will be dropping by the Centre to share their knowledge with students via the Connected Classroom. The video conferences will be hosted by students from Mosman High School who are also gaining experience by using video conferencing as part of the assessment for the Year 10 ‘Beyond Visible’ Physics and Maths course. The next video conference will be with Professor Bei-Lok Hu, 2003 Nobel Prize Physics, a scientist from Marylands University whose research is in the fields of: quantum field theory in curved spacetime, early universe quantum processes and Stochastic Semiclassical Gravity.
As part of this project we will also be encouraging your students to collaborate online, organise VCs and speak with experts. If you are interested in receiving regular updates on this exciting project please email concetta.gotlieb@det.nsw.edu.au. Read more on our blog, click here.

31st March – Good Game Design
The process of understanding and applying the principles of good game design to student created games can not only improve students’ collaboration and problem solving skills, but also lay foundations for deep learning, innovation and change in 21st century classrooms. This workshop will give teachers a fundamental understanding of basic game design principles and how these can be applied when teaching students to build games using any form of game creation software. In collaborative groups, participants will deconstruct and review games, then design and build a level of a game.
