“Fun from games arises out of mastery. It arises out of comprehension. It is the act of solving puzzles that makes games fun. In other words, with games, learning is the drug.”

– Raph Koster

MacICT is excited to announce two new Good Game Design activities in addition to our Level Up! Good Game Design boot camps for students and workshops for teachers.

Game Based Learning with Little Space Heroes
This project is suitable for teachers of students from Kindergarten to Year 4. We are very pleased to have the designers of Little Space Heroes supporting us with this project. Read more about it here. We have had a number of teachers who have already submitted expressions of interest for this project and there is still a few more weeks to go before the closing date.

Game Design Master Classes
This Master Class is suitable for students from Year 9 to 12 who have had some game design experience or have completed MacICT’s Level Up! Good Game Design boot camp. The Master Class will drill down into what it takes to design a game. Working with us in the development of the Game Design Master Class is Dean Tuttle one of the creators of the game, Alternator and Paul Gray co-founder of Bubble Gum Interactive, creators of the award winning game Little Space Heroes. The Game Design Master Classes will be available from mid Term 2 onwards.

Level Up! Good Game Design boot camps
Hundreds of primary and high school have been through our successful Game Design boot camps since October 2011. This boot camp is suitable for students from Year 5 through to Year 12. During these boot camps, students are involved in deconstructing and reviewing games, then move onto designing and building a game using Microsoft Kodu Game Lab.
